My sister and I stopped by without plans to take a tour. My sister has COPD and we didn’t think a 2 1/2 hour walking tour would be possible. But the cost was much less than we expected, and as soon as we mentioned the COPD they gave us options. We ended up getting a personal tour where they drove us part way with a side-by-side and our personal guide(s) adjusted the speed to something my sister could handle. We stopped as often and as long as we needed to and ended up going the whole way. An unforgettable experience with VIP service.
And in my 27 years in Alaska they are the first company that I’ve come across that gives a discount to Alaska residents!!’

Worth the experience.

Hiked the glacier with Petra and it was breathtaking. She was an amazing guide, keeping our kids state while giving us the most amazing tour and hike of the glacier. We went in ice caves and crevices, walked across the frozen river, and spent hours exploring. The glacier is beautiful and a trip our family will never forget. Thank you Petra!

Worth every penny

Absolutely amazing adventure! We had family visiting and decided to try this tour out, and I’m so glad we did. Booking was easy; we booked via text, and the company was extremely responsive and provided all the details we needed to be successful. Our group of 6 (5 adults + 1 18-month old) enjoyed ourselves and our guide, Naomi. I unfortunately forgot my coat at home, but they had coats and pants to borrow. They also have REI carriers that we took advantage of for my son, and multiple restrooms are available at the start/end of the tour.

Best walk ever. Jason was delightful and knowledgeable and views were amazing.

I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for an adventure. Our guide Naomi was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot of cool facts about the glacier throughout the trek. They provided crampons to wear on our shoes and even had backpack baby carriers available to borrow. Tour guide Maguire was a huge help with teaching me how to use the baby carrier for my toddler and ensuring that she was safe. A big thank you to both of these guides and to all of the friendly staff we met throughout our experience there!

Where do I even start!? We had an amazing time taking the tour with Morgan! The glacier was incredible and the service and personality Morgan added to the adventure made it one of the best days ever! I highly recommend!

Myself and 3 friends had the pleasure of hiking Mantanuska Glacier this afternoon with our guide Amy! Amy went above and beyond tailoring the tour to our group’s needs and her knowledge was superior!!!

My husband and I had family visiting and decided to stop by and do a tour on the Matanuska glacier while we were heading back home to Fairbanks from Anchorage! I’m so glad that we did because we had an amazing time! I was incredibly nervous to do this tour because we had already done so much hiking while we were down in Anchorage the day before and I am newly pregnant with a rough history of multiple miscarriages. The company was so comforting and reassuring. Our guide Amy was the best guide that we could’ve asked for. I’m so glad that she was working that day! She is a retired OB/GYN nurse and was very understanding of my situation. She held my hand through all of the rougher areas of the tour and had somebody escort my husband and I in a side by side down to the bottom of the path where the glacier began from the building and back up when we were done. I felt so loved and cared for the entire time. Our entire family enjoyed this experience! I highly recommend this company and this glacier!!

We went on a tour yesterday and it was fabulous! Our guide Petra was perfect. She shared a ton of great info, was very consciencious about our group, and her love of the glacier and its natural history was apparent. I was assured when I reserved our time that my 82 year old father would be able to do the tour and he could and did and he and my mom loved it. I've heard great things about this tour from other locals for years and they were spot on. I will highly recommend this tour to others.

This was a top notch tour! Our guide, Petra, was knowledgable, experienced, and funny! We learned a great deal about glaciers and how they form, change, and how they're affected by environment. We had fun while doing it! This was not a physically challenging tour if you are in average physical health. Well worth the money!

Definitely a MUST see & do adventure!! The tour guides are very knowledgeable and friendly! They made the experience worth while! I did this tour on a whim and let me tell you, I'm so glad I did it. The glaciers are beautiful, and altho the tour guide was very informative I felt she was a tad rude. She wanted to keep the group moving and it felt rushed. I felt she was biased and catered to certain people who she believed would give her a better tip. I would do the tour again with a different tour company unfortunately.

We couldn't describe our experience as anything less than fantastic. During our trip to Alaska, we had the incredible opportunity to visit the Matanuska Glacier. It holds the distinction of being the largest glacier in the United States accessible by car. The prospect of witnessing this magnificent glacier firsthand filled us with excitement. This Glacier tour offered us a great service, allowing us to safely explore the glacier icy expanse. With the guidance of experts, we slowly walked into the heart of the glacier. Navigating through the icy terrain, we were surrounded by towering ice mountains, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Despite the cold, the beauty of the Matanuska Glacier was a truly unforgettable experience that we will never forget. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Alaska.

Super recommend taking the tour of Matanuska glacier! We had a really great time there guided by Johnson in March! He is so nice, funny and shared a lot of knowledge and cares with us. We got so impressed that we decided to hold our wedding ceremony there. The ceremony was also a great sucess and unforgettable experience. We all so appreciated the help from the entire crew of glacier tours.

Worth the visit A wonderful time walking around the glacier. Our guide, Misty, was excellent.She told us about the changes to the glacier throughout the year. Very informative and definitely worth the visit. The tip was added to the price of the tour.

My family had a spectacular day on Matanuska Glacier. Our guide made it extra special for my son’s birthday. He was great with kids, very positive, encouraging, engaging, and fun. The temp was below 0F but we stayed warm by moving around. I’m already dreaming about another trip to the glacier. Thank you!

What a great experience! Way more exploration than we expected. Naomi was a wonderful guide and we would book with her any day. Only one negative bit of feedback. Ensure that other guides do not make disparaging or derogatory comments about non-English speaking groups. Even if they don't know you are being rude, we do.

We took a glacier tour in Early January and it was absolutely amazing! We were provided with crampons for our hike as well. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable as well as kind. He was our personal photographer but also let us enjoy the glacier for as long as we wanted. The staff who assisted us both before and after our hike were very nice as well. I can’t recommend this amazing tour enough!

This was definitely a bucket list experience! The views were to die for! The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly! They provide you with helmets and crampons to walk on the ice. Be prepared for your shoes to get dirty! Would highly recommend this tour!

Six of us, ranging in age from 7-52, went on the tour in mid-November. It was an amazing tour & Petra was very knowledgeable and helpful. My seven year old grandson’s feet became too cold and he had to stop. Kendra immediately had someone come from the office to retrieve he & I to bring us back. Kendra helped us when we returned and was SO KIND. She even offered to take us back out to do the final loop of the tour (the prettiest loop” once his feet were warmed and he was doing better. She went above and beyond. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, not only because it’s an amazing once in a lifetime experience, but because they truly care. I cannot thank them enough for the tour, the experience, and the help. Thank you so much!

Tour guide Lucas was very knowledgeable about the geology beneath the glacier that cause it to behave the way it does.

He made sure all members of our family and the group as a whole we're well taken care of during our walk across and around the glacier.

We got to walk down into a recently discovered ice cave that had been underwater all summer as well as step out onto a frozen pool near the main upheaval of ice.

The tour is easy if you're in semi decent shape. Our 6 year old walked it by himself without issues.

Since it progresses at a rate of about 8" every day, what we saw today will likely be different than what will be seen next month.

Our whole family loved this, and stayed engaged for the 2 hour hike. It was the best mixture of safe but exhilarating. I would highly recommend this adventure. We walked on, in, and through the glacier, while our tour guide taught us the science and history of it.

This was one of the coolest tours that I’ve ever done. It was really unique, and it was really awesome to walk on the glacier. We were able to learn a lot about the different ways that glaciers are formed and Sid our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. He took us to different parts on the glacier that he thought we would enjoy. He even was our personal photographer and was very willing to take pictures for us. It is so surreal to be up there on the ice and just see everything below you and just the mass and the water in the main area of the glacier was incredible. We also got to drink glacier water which is super tasty, don’t forget your water bottle. I highly recommend this tour it was really worth the money.

This hike is one of the first things we did on landing in Alaska. We loved it so much and highly recommend everyone to do this hike. We experienced the glacier for the first time and it felt surreal.

We were provided with crampons, helmets, hiking sticks for safety. Our hike was completed within 2.5 hrs and we took the last tour of the day. We felt we should have taken the hike in the morning rather than evening because at some places we felt we were rushed to complete the hike. Me & my husband like to enjoy the views for a longer time frame instead of rushing. Maybe because of that we felt like that. Otherwise the entire experience is amazing. Our guide answered all our questions and helped us in clicking pictures too. Take as many pictures & videos as possible whenever you find time because you can’t come back to the same spot later in your hike. We also got to drink glacier water (don’t forget to take an empty water bottle), eat glacier ice, and saw an ice cave.

And one suggestion to anyone who has never done hiking or anyone who has balancing issues or first time on ice, I highly recommend taking hiking sticks from them that they offer even though the hike is not that difficult.

Amazing tour!!. Chris was our guide and was very knowledgeable. I felt safe following him through the glacier and we had so much fun. We got to drink Glacier water…. so bring a container to fill up if you want to. They provided all the necessary equipment, so you can also pack light. We got beautiful pictures and memories to last a lifetime! Do not pass on this tour, you will regret it.

Super great experience with the glacier! In this 1.5 hour tour we got the chance to walk on the glacier and take a closer look of it. The tour guide is really nice. They provided ice chains for boots and will teach you how to better walk on the ice and avoid slippery. Very beautiful scene and unique experience.

Not far off Route 1, there is a check in and a gift shop at the entrance about a mile from the turnoff. They were well staffed by friendly employees. Restrooms were available.

After check in it's a short drive to the tent to receive your equipment and meet with your guide.

The Tour/Hike lasted about 2.5 hours and it was magical. To see the Glacier is one thing to walk on it is something else. To see the site and the power of ice and water is incredible.

This is something not to be missed.

What an incredible experience! This hike was honestly one of the best I've ever been on. They provided us with helmets, poles, crampons. Our guide was not only friendly but also a total glacier expert. We saw crevasses, black ice, and even a snow cave! Oh, and guess what? We got to sip on glacier water – so refreshing! Our guide doubled as a photographer, snapping awesome pics for us. Walking on the glacier, surrounded by that breathtaking view – just WOW. Highly, highly recommend this!

This experience was a little scary at times but amazing at the same time! Shay was our guide and he was fantastic! When we reached a difficult spot he was there to help us. Plus he (of course) knew tons of cool facts about the Glacier. Pro tip: they say it's only 10 degrees colder on the Glacier than not, but if it's windy it feels colder so depending on your tolerance be prepared. Also bring a empty water bottle so you can catch and drink so Glacier water easily. Last thing, bring a baggy to grab some Glacier mud at the end of the tour. It makes a great mineral mud mask!

The guided tour here was really nice. Everything was planned out really well and we got to see beautiful sights. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and she really helped those in our group who needed help.

The infrastructure they built for the tours was also really cool, and they gave us helmets and spikes for our shoes which made it really easy to walk on the glacier. I’m eager to come back and go atving or ice climbing on this glacier with the same company

Awesome tour! I’m a local and never visited the glacier before so I took a friend who was visiting and it was incredible! Our guide, Shae, was awesome! Very personable and knowledgable, and helped anyone who needed an extra hand to make it up the ice. Spikes are provided as well as helmet, so all you need to bring is a good attitude! We even saw someone in an off-road wheelchair out there on the glacier, which was awesome! Don’t hesitate to take a tour!

Once in a lifetime experience! Hiking Matanuska Glacier was the highlight of our 7-day Alaska vacation.! The views were incredible and our tour guide, Ethan, was very knowledgeable. We did a little photo shoot for my friend’s 30th and our guide was very flexible and helpful! We enjoyed the breathtaking views and had the opportunity to drink glacier water! 15/10 recommend.

Great time Great experience! Learned so much from our guide Melissa. The lady managing the area had everything down like a well oiled machine. We initially felt a little rushed to get started, but understood that we were trying to join a group to keep our wait time down. They provided crampons which were a must and as a 56 year old with knee issues I really appreciated the fact that I brought along some hiking poles. Dressing in layers was brilliant because we were freezing when we first arrived and burning up when we left. If I only had one negative to say we did feel pressure to tip our guide, even though we certainly would’ve done so regardless. I just don’t like pressure when it comes to tipping. Perhaps it was a kind manager looking out for her employees in a world where fewer people tip, but it’s just not some thing that I like.

We had a great time walking on the glacier ice all through and observing natural glacier landscape. Worth the fee, and understood why this tour has to be guided, as the landscape is tricky to walk through and there are dangerous parts but we were well guided and felt safe to experience the hike all through even with a 16 month old toddler.

Best thing to do in Anchorage We went on Memorial Day. What a fantastic experience. We started out and walk to the first level. Took a bunch of pictures and then we thought we were done. As it turned out, we ended up walking all the way to the top! We safely saw a huge crevice (sp?). The top of the world. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained how the glacier was formed, all the pinnacles, the dirt, rocks, etc. very excellent. Highly recommend!

Absolutely worth your time and money!

Getting up and close to a glacier like this takes an immense amount of expertise and skill - I really appreciate that the guides have both.

This tour was easy to book too - I was a walk in after driving by the access road and seeing the sign. The roads down to the first lodge and then to the actual glacier tour start were both a little bumpy, but that’s the closest thing to a “knock” on the service.

The actual tour was wonderful. I went in May, the “breakout season,” and were snowmobiled across the beginning ice to get up to the glacier where we put on spikes and started walking. Our guide, a Polish woman whose name I forget, was just great. She was informative about the glacier, thoughtful about route safety, and very responsive about how the ice was changing throughout the day.

Overall, I was impressed. Both by the ice and service! I’d highly recommend it for anyone nearby!

I also want to add that we were lucky enough to do an extra part of the trail that is not normally included in the tour. This was a great opportunity to see more of the glacier and learn more about it. The weather was also perfect, and we had a great time.

WOW! I am not entirely sure what I was expecting, but my mind was absolutely blown. As somebody fortunate enough to have done and seen many things in life, this tops the list without a doubt. Not only was my tour guide Nick unbelievably amazing and knowledgeable, he was a true professional. I cannot recommend Matanuska Glacier Tours highly enough. From the staff at check in, to the lead guide/supervisor Kendra, to my tour guide Nick. Amazing people, amazing place, amazing experience. Worth every single penny and then some. Easy/flexible scheduling via text, easy to navigate directions, unreal/once in a lifetime experience. They tell you this in advance, BUT, be sure to gas up before you go and 4WD/AWD is recommended in winter. I CANNOT WAIT to return, and I will certainly be calling ahead to ensure I will be guided by Nick again! WORTH EVERY PENNY AND MORE!!!!!!

Oh My God! This was so much fun and definitely one of the most fun things I've done in a while. We have a friend who recommended it as she has been 3 times. Chris, our guide was super knowledgeable about everything, super friendly and a wonderful guide. He is also very patient because their are definitely people who don't listen as well on the tour. It was a beautiful day, and just stunning to see something like this. This is a must see for literally anyone and everyone. You will leave respecting Alaska so much more. And with a local Alaska rate their is no excuse not to go.

We had a great experience and tour. There were a couple of people in our group who didn’t seem to understand the importance of not crowding narrow areas for photo ops, but that’s definitely of no fault of the guide. We got to check out a local store and pick out some lunch before we went, that we ate once we were done. We learned a lot about glaciers and overall weather in Alaska. Remember to bring cash to tip your guides!

Best place and people in the world

Amazing tour with reasonable price. Definitely worth your money. Our tour guide Jason was friendly and helpful. He gave us information on the glaciers and showed us different scenic spots to take pictures of the glaciers. The road to the glacier was a bit slippery but if you are in any trouble the guides are there to help you. One small recommendation is it would be great if they provide hot water after the trip.

Awesome experience, Chris was our guide and he was the best! So friendly, so knowledgable. We had an incredible time. About 2.5 hours round trip, got to get pretty close to the glacier. Big discount for military/veterans and a guest of theirs, it was 90 before tip for 2 people. Highly recommend.

I can’t remember our guides name (Chris, maybe?), but he was absolutely awesome and made us feel super safe. The glacier is so grand and beautiful and pictures just don’t do it justice. If you’re considering this activity, run don’t walk and book it now! Such a fun and awesome thing to experience in Alaska.

Must do tour if you're in Anchorage or the surrounding area. Had Chris as the tour guide and he did an amazing guide. Tour was fun, adventurous, and educational. Safety is their top priority so he was very thorough in explaining the risks and dangers of walking on a glacier while still appreciating the beauty of it.

Tour took about 2 hours, but there were multiple stops to learn about different aspects of a glacier, take photos, drink natural glacier water, and just enjoy the 360 degree of views. Chris was very informative of explaining the facts and answering any questions. Our group was only 9 people so it was easy to ask your questions and take group photos.

Highly recommend this tour as you'll see many glaciers in Alaska, but not many opportunities to walk on an actual glacier. This was a completely different experience than seeing a glacier from a distance.

It’s an expensive hike, but unlike anything else we’ve seen or done. I can’t imagine doing this without a guide…our guide, McGuire, was incredible! He gave us a wonderful education and knew the safe route to navigate the glacier. I was terrified due to not feeling steady on ice, but McGuire was always ready with a helping hand and encouragement.

I only gave it 4/5 stars because we had a very large group (19 people!) and I had to convince them to lend me a trekking pole (no WAY would I have wanted to do this without it).

The hike lasted 3 hours, which felt excessive, but I think having such a big group was the main reason. We did walk out to the glacier and back, but most of the time was spent on the glacier.

Once in a lifetime experience! We did the hike to the glacier with this company and overall, it was very nice and very well organized. The visit is worth coming for sure, it is remarkable when you see the glacier from inside versus the view you have from the parking lot. It is definitely a experience to never forget. They provided the crampons and they take it easy and feels like you have plenty of time to explore. Our guide was fantastic, she provided enough explanation about the different features of the glacier and answered all the questions we had. The part that was strange was that when we were paying before the tour, we were asked if we wanted to add extra money on the visa so we would have cash to tip the tour guide. They suggested $20 per person (tour was $125 per person, a bit pricey when you compare to a 6 hour cruise in Valdez with lunch included). When the tour and there, another lady reminded us that the tour guides were fourteenths, which if it is true that they only rely on our tips, is pretty pathetic giving the profit they get out of the 200 to 300 people per day they have over the summer. Of course we gave her the $40 for the two of us, but it makes you feel a little responsible for paying the guide for the amazing work she did it while the people running the show potentially pocket the full entry fee. Anyway, experience was still remarkable, just that new ones that I made it feel a little uncomfortable to us at the start and the end. Looks like our experience matched others regarding the tipping situation.

We dis a guided tour and our guide was awesome. It was expensive but worth it. Glacier walk, and all the scientific details were well done by our tour guide. She was very nice with small kids and answered multiple questions patiently. We could collect glacier water and eat ice and the location was spectacular! Whole experience was awesome! They provided hats, hiking sticks and snow boot chains. They don’t have food or water provided so carry that if you want to.

AN ALASKA MUST DO! Hiking on the glacier is a life event! Looking from a ship is one thing, hiking on one is surreal. The ride from Anchorage (2hrs) is a tad long but one of the few ways to get to any glaciers. Guide was very knowledgeable, safety oriented and nice, with cleats for customers. Gloves suggested but not required

Amazing hike. Forceful tipping demands The hike is a must! However, not sure if it has to be with this company. From the moment we came to check in, we got almost forceful tipping demands. We were asked if we have enough cash to tip the guides at $20 per person. Tipping asks were printed and posted all around. Once we were done with the tour, and I went to the car, a woman ran after me with persistent questioning whether the guide took good care of us which meant “give her tips”. I wonder if those guides are paid anything at all…

Excellent time and excellent guided hike. Took about 3 hours and 3 miles round trip. Not too difficult and they give you ice spikes to slip on over your shoes. Definitely lots of mud and melting water so I wore muck boots the whole time and was very comfortable.

Had a 1,000% great tour with Daniel! He was very knowledgeable and helpful and safe. He made the tour interesting and fun with jokes along the way. We got to see amazing views, stop for pictures and drink fresh clean Glacier water, and optional glacial face mask (natural face cream) using glacial silt mud that is great for the skin. Entire tour takes 2.5-3 hours and last tour is at 5pm. Must show up 30 minutes early so 4:30pm is the last arrival time. Don't be late or you'll miss out. Doors open at 9 for the 10am tour. Tours every hour.

Ask for Maggie! An absolute must! We’ve been here several times but this last trip was the absolute best. We were a little unsure about the guided tour, since we were used to the self guided tours that were previously available but the guided tours are so much better.A few logistics to note: Bring cash. The tour guides live off tips so make sure you have cash to tip your your guide well. They provide you helmets and shoe spikes. You’ll want a light jacket, anything heavier and you’ll get too toasty during the hike.The tour can get strenuous at times but the guides try to tailor the route based on the group’s ability. Don’t be afraid to say no or that you don’t feel comfortable with something.

The experience was amazing! Worth every penny. Our guide (Laina) was super informative and entertaining and made the trip so much fun. We didn't know what to expect but minds were blown this day. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Absolute MUST do activity! We went on a 10 day Alaskan bucket list trip for our 26th anniversary at the beginning of this month (June). We did the Matanuska Glacier Adventures pretty early in our trip and it was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!!! Isabel was our tour guide and she was so very sweet and extremely knowledgeable about the glacier and the surrounding area. It was a pretty easy hike/walk even if you are out of shape. I cannot stress enough that you HAVE to do this tour! Epic Bucket List Checkoff Driving down the highway, this looks like some dirty ice not worth stopping for. Boy was I wrong. We stopped and this became the highlight of our trip. It was epic. My adventurous teen son said this was on his bucket list and definitely checked it off. The tour guide was so friendly and made the hike fun. You don’t want to miss the chance to walk on a real glacier.

We took a group of 41 teens/ chaperones to Matanuska Glacier Park for a field trip. Planning was pretty chill and they were able to accommodate our organizational requirements with ease. Our guides were very helpful, ensuring our group was safe out on the glacier. Stunning views on this bucket list worthy experience really made for a great experience for us. Would recommend.
