We got to walk down into a recently discovered ice cave that had been underwater all summer as well as step out onto a frozen pool near the main upheaval of ice.
The tour is easy if you're in semi decent shape. Our 6 year old walked it by himself without issues.

We loved it so much and highly recommend everyone to do this hike. We experienced the glacier for the first time and it felt surreal.
We were provided with crampons, helmets, hiking sticks for safety. Our hike was completed within 2.5 hrs and we took the last tour of the day. We felt we should have taken the hike in the morning rather than evening because at some places we felt we were rushed to complete the hike. Me & my husband like to enjoy the views for a longer time frame instead of rushing. Maybe because of that we felt like that. Otherwise the entire experience is amazing. Our guide answered all our questions and helped us in clicking pictures too. Take as many pictures & videos as possible whenever you find time because you can’t come back to the same spot later in your hike. We also got to drink glacier water (don’t forget to take an empty water bottle), eat glacier ice, and saw an ice cave.

Getting up and close to a glacier like this takes an immense amount of expertise and skill - I really appreciate that the guides have both.
This tour was easy to book too - I was a walk in after driving by the access road and seeing the sign. The roads down to the first lodge and then to the actual glacier tour start were both a little bumpy, but that’s the closest thing to a “knock” on the service.
The actual tour was wonderful. I went in May, the “breakout season,” and were snowmobiled across the beginning ice to get up to the glacier where we put on spikes and started walking. Our guide, a Polish woman whose name I forget, was just great. She was informative about the glacier, thoughtful about route safety, and very responsive about how the ice was changing throughout the day.

Our tour guide Madison remained professional, kind and calm throughout the hike. One reason I gave it a four star review though is because, a couple came along with a group of kids on the hike and were very rowdy and rambunctious. I had a problem with this because the tour guide previously explained that there were crevices bigger then themselves and to be careful, luckily no kids were hurt. The second reason I gave it a four star review is because, with these kids being so rowdy, one kid ran in front of me and I fell, thank goodness is wasn't major and just a scratch and a bruise, I just kept trucking through the whole hike. The whole time Madison did an excellent job, but you could tell the kids were distracting her to ensure their safety. One recommendation is to raise the age limit to 10 or 11. This way, kids are starting to mature more and be more in tune with the world around them and worry about other people. We had beautiful weather and even during breakup season this magnificent beauty of a glacier was striking. One of our fantastic tour guides explained that the glacier is quite large....it goes deeper under the rocks than you’d expect and farther than you can see.
Our glacier guides were extremely experienced and knowledgeable and also had a wonderful sense of humor. I can also say that they kept their tourists safe but also allowed the curious ones to explore as well.
Our guides were flexible and patient with all levels of experience in hiking. No matter your experience level you’ll be in awe.
The guided tour is highly recommended because parts of the glacier may be fragile if you are unsure of a safe path...the glacier changes often PLUS it helps preserve its natural beauty and allows for a very unique experience to view this mind boggling piece of our planet. This glacier is older than you....So be kind to it 👵.
PLEASE NOTE: the road down to the main building is a little steep and has one tight curve but it is safe. So please drive cautiously if you’ve never been on a winding dirt road. It’s a short trip to your destination and it is completely worth it. Patience is key when it comes to beauty 🤓
I am planning another trip this summer and I can’t wait 😆.

The weather was a little breezy. Nicole was an awesome guide. She was knowledgeable and was very engaged with us. BTW, great job at helping the guy in proposing to her future bride.read moreread lessTunis Kiboli3/21/2021We drove from Anchorage to glacier, it was an awesome drive with picturesque views. Although, the last few miles were driving on snow but the roads were well maintained. They don't provide any gear other than trail spikes, so please put on additional layers. We were taken to the glacier on snow mobile that was an adventure in itself. Then we got the guided tour through the glacier, we saw ice caves, ice crevasses and beautiful blue blocks of ice throughout the trail. It was an experience that we would cherish throughout our life.read moreread lessNamrita Gupta3/20/2021We had Chelsea as our tour guide and she was super informative and friendly. She truly makes you feel like your experience matters. Totally recommend doing a winter tour. They have an 11am and 2pm tour. The glacier changes all the time so you never know what you’ll see out there! If you’re an Alaskan resident bring proof of residency to get a discount. Don’t forget to bring cash to tip your tour guide. A wonderful experience to see a glacier up closeread moreread lessElizabeth Angel3/13/2021This place is amazing. Nick was our guide. He has a great knowledge of the glacier and all its history. They provided spikes for your shoes which is so much better than having to purchase them ahead of time. There's a cute little gift shop too. I would have liked to see Matanuska shot glasses because i collect them but ended up with a t-shirt instead which is totally cool.
5*'s here. Thanks Nick for teaching us so much and having a personality too!read moreread lessCindy Main3/11/2021
